EtherMail is a decentralized email service that is peer-to-peer, anonymous, and encrypted. Users are incentivized with EMT tokens—paid for by advertisers— when they read advertised emails. The rest of the email service functions similar to traditional Web2 email. EtherMail is an excellent example of where crypto can be used to disintermediate transacting parties; in this case, advertisers and readers are directly brought together without the need for an ad network. This leads to better alignment between the demand and supply sides, as advertisers send emails only to those who specifically opt in—possibly leading to higher conversion—and readers see only ads that are relevant to them.
